The Crystal Goblet

A letterpress interpretation of The Crystal Goblet, by Beatrice Ward.

This book is the final product from a Typography assignment. The goal was to re-design Beatrice Ward's essay "The Crystal Goblet", also known as "Printing Should Be Invisible", while making a statement about what she is saying in the essay. I chose to print her essay with only an impression and no ink, in order to highlight that typography can never be invisible, even when it is. Beatrice Ward believed that the reader should never notice the typography, and that the designer should simply make reading easy, without distractions. I disagree with her completely, and believe that typography should be beautiful and interesting, in order to make someone want to read it, as well as admire it.
